Why Croatia?

For this assignment, I will be researching national and global information infrastructure issues as they apply to Croatia. I have chosen to research Croatia, because in March I will have the opportunity to visit the country and explore several of their libraries as part of LI860 – Current Issues in Global Information Infrastructure. This class will initially help me prepare for the trip, and I will then be able to apply what I learn in Croatia to this assignment.

The Republic of Croatia is a small country in southeastern Europe along the Adriatic coast. Croatia was part of Yugoslavia until 1991, when it declared independence, throwing the country into four years of civil war. Its economy suffered greatly during the war, but has since improved, thanks in part to tourism.
